The marketing company, Razorfish, has released a new report which highlights upcoming trends that we can expect to see this year in terms of social media. One of these trends suggests that business executives will join social media sites like Facebook, if they have not done so already

The vice president of Razorfish, Terri Walter, said, “Executives are responding to social media and the real impact it is having on their brands.” Because more and more people are spending time on the Internet, online marketing companies will likely feel the impact. It is thought that these companies will now struggle to target specific audiences who might be interested in the products or services that they are promoting. The report released by Razorfish noted that Internet users are also quite selective and that marketers who are trying to reach them will need to take that into consideration.
The Razorfish report also pointed out that, regardless of age, people wanted to see a higher degree or personalization available to them. Things that might accommodate this need would be a coupon that a customer could receive on their mobile phone or floor plans of a particular store that customers could access online which would make shopping much easier for them.
Walter said that “As viewership fragments, advertisers must find a way to adopt their messages to smaller, but potentially more valuable, audiences.” In order to do this, many advertisers are now beginning to look at specialized sites that might target these specific audiences.
