Thanksgiving day – I had a great meal as usual

lunch

Thanksgiving is a day that I always look forward to every single year. This year we are hosting again and my relatives are in town to celebrate with us – the usual gang were here, my uncle TJ, Daniel Lim (SlashGear’s associate editor), Aki Ukita (SlashGear Japan’s editor), my sisters, and good ol George. For Lunch we had Thai food from where my sister works. She brought food that was not on her restaurant’s menu; so not quite your typical Thai food.

For dinner, we had roast beef, pearl onions with cream gravy and crispy bacon, my fav dish green bean casserole, roast potato, pasta salad, and fresh greens. Desserts hits our tummy afterward – Banana’s foster, rum chocolate cake, fresh coconut drinks (Daniel shows his hidden skills in cracking those young coconut), and ice cream.

I was quite happy with our Thanksgiving celebration; sadly I was hit by cold late in the day and apparently my wife catch it from me too. I’m going to have a good rest tomorrow. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!

Ho Ho Ho… Merry Christmas! Yet another fun cookout!

My wife and I are hosting a cookout for this Christmas. The usual gang is here including TJ and Rue, our associate editor and long time friend Daniel, and Aki from SlashGear Japan. After unwrapping present (I got a Sanyo Xacti HD1000 from my wife btw) we started the cookout. TJ brought bunch of seafood including shrimp, Mahi, crab, and some other fish we did not get to use. Daniel brought two desert this time, Chocolate Truffle cake with Rum + raspberry and my favorite, the fruit tart cheese cake.

Me and TJ and Satsuki Cooking

Aside from boil crab, Satsuki and I prepared our specialty pizzas; the Shrimp Scampi Alfredo pizza and Pesto Crab Pizza. We also made pepperoni pizza because my sister Effie hates seafood (What a picky eater).

We played PSP, Wii, and PS3 games and then dive into dessert. Aki made cheesecake this time and it was good, but my favorite is still the fruit tart cheese cake Daniel brought.

So all and all, we had a blast and I am still enjoying the food and wine while I’m writing this entry. If you don’t get what I’m writing on this post, I’m truly sorry as I probably still a little drunk :)

My Wife – Amazing cook and dedicated parent

I’m really amazed on how my wife is handling things around the household, you guys might see a lot of her writing on SlashGear Japan (she’s the executive editor there), but she still manage to run the “Mom” tasks flawlessly. I’m married to a wonderful woman and very dedicated in parenting my little sister (real life lesson in parenting!).

So what does my wife cook for my sister to take to school for lunch? Well, many things really, I’m going to post her lunch box creation from time to time. So here is the first batch of her lunch box.

What a meal – 4th of July cookout

Well, it was not really a cook out since Texas weather is not very forgiving during the 4th of July. Our BBQ plan was ruin, but my wife came up with an idea of “Spaghettis parties”. She made probably around six different spaghetti sauces. Instead of pouring those sauces on top of my spaghettis, i picked up a hot dog bun with my beer batter sausage and pour those nice pesto pasta sauce and etc on top of it. It tasted amazingly good!

What a meal - 4th of July cookout

After the meal, we went to the park to light up some fireworks, it was fun aside from the fact that we were feeding the mosquitoes. I hope next year it w’ont be a rainy day on 4th of July so we can do a better cookout and camping.

Crawfish, Crawfish, more Crawfish!

Almost every weekend, my family always have a cookout. This week we are doing it at my uncle’s house. TJ (my uncle) suggested we do crawfish this time, and off we did. I honestly never have boil crawfish before, so this is the first time. The weather was so nice (cloudy and cool), we decided to do it on his patio at the backyard.

Crawfish

I have to say, boil crawfish is awesome! It’s close to how shrimp would taste like, but it’s a little bit tastier. Next week we are doing Indonesian Kalasan chicken. My other uncle’s wife and my sister are planning on some of the menu already. I love family cookout, it brings everyone closer and we always have fun doing it. Vincent, you better make it next time, we might do fear factor style cookout (Daniel – a close friend of the family, suggested we do fear factor style lol!)
